This fall, local favorites Chantal DeGroat, Dana Green, and Lauren Bloom Hanover star in a piercing, stripped-down production of Macbeth, directed by Adriana Baer at Portland Center Stage at The Armory. With an edited script by Lee Sunday Evans and original music by Heather Christian, Shakespeare's infamous tale of political gluttony and supernatural vengeance finds refreshing new life in a taught, thrilling adaptation The New York Times called, “transcendent.” DeGroat, Green, and Hanover tackle all the roles, with captivating shape-note singing lending a haunting soundtrack to the rise and fall of Scotland's most notorious royal assassin.

BWW Review: TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS at the Seattle Rep Offers Up Sage Advice

Nia Vardalos' stage adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's book "Tiny Beautiful Things", currently playing at the Seattle Rep, on the surface may seem like just a string of Strayed's advice columns, but when you peel back the layers and dive deeper it becomes so much more. As we get into the advice, we also get a glimpse into the woman who gave it, painting a portrait of a woman who's been through a lot and come out wiser on the other side.

TWIST YOUR DICKENS To Open At The Armory

The Second City's A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens returns to Portland Center Stage at The Armory with a new Scrooge played by Isaac Lamb, new jokes, and the same uproariously funny experience Portland audiences have come to expect. Twist Your Dickens begins preview performances on Nov. 27, opens on Nov. 30, and runs through Dec. 23 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage. Ron West returns to direct. Rebecca Sohn joins the cast, while Darius Pierce, Sam Dinkowitz, Chantal DeGroat, Laura Modica, and Nicholas Kessler return with their signature, irreverent take on some of the season's most iconic characters. Written by The Colbert Report alumni and improv comedy veterans Peter Gwinn and Bobby Mort, Twist Your Dickens cuts through the typical sweetness of the season to offer something bold, fresh, and acerbically funny.

BWW Review: TWIST YOUR DICKENS is Back! And That's a Very Good Thing

There are plenty of wholesome choices for holiday entertainment. And then there's TWIST YOUR DICKENS from Chicago-based comedy troupe The Second City. I am thrilled that this irreverent and hilarious adult version of this holiday favorite is back (and it's better than ever) at Portland Center Stage.

Darius Pierce to Star in TWIST YOUR DICKENS At The Armory

The hilarious hit from comedy giant The Second City returns to The Armory for another year of holiday jeer. The Second City's A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens, written by Emmy Award-winners Peter Gwinn and Bobby Mort, begins preview performances on the U.S. Bank Main Stage on December 5; opens on December 8; and runs through December 31.

BWW Review: Et Tu, Brute? is Comme Ci Comme Ça with Seattle Shakespeare Company's JULIUS CAESAR

This rendition of Julius Caesar by the Seattle Shakespeare Company will offer a few surprises. It is a streamlined production with a race and gender-diverse cast. With no clear-cut villains and heroes, this epic tale of political savagery has an engaging narrative. But when said savagery feels tepid, hiccups are more conspicuous, leaving audience members recalling the bad, rather than the good. Now performing at the Cornish Playhouse, Julius Caesar gets the job done, but it's problematic.

Photo Flash: First Look at Political Thriller JULIUS CAESAR at Seattle Shakespeare Company

It's a 400-year-old play, yet it can feel as contemporary as today's headlines. In Julius Caesar Bloody and brutal decisions are weighed against honor and ambition. Seattle Shakespeare Company's Artistic Director George Mount directs Shakespeare's political thriller which runs now through Oct. 1, 2107 at the Cornish Playhouse. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

STRING Opens Next Friday as the Final Show in The Beta Series at Village Theatre

String takes the stage as the final production in the 2016-2017 season of Village Theatre's brand new program, The Beta Series, which is a one-of-a-kind expansion to the theatre's renowned Village Originals program that supports the development of new works.

BWW Review: Seattle Rep's WELL Hilariously Deconstructs One-Woman Shows

Author Lisa Kron is known for her one-woman shows. I am known for having issues with one-person shows, as they tend to be someone else's therapy on stage. Luckily Kron also understands that issue as she very self referentially mocks those kinds of shows in her play "Well", currently at the Seattle Rep, as she deconstructs shows like this and really all shows with her hilarious exploration that has "nothing to do with her relationship with her Mother!"
