If you’re a fan of musical theater, A CHORUS LINE will resonate. It’s a visual and auditory delight, with complex dance numbers and Marvin Hamlisch’s memorable melodies.

SISTER ACT at Toby's in Columbia is a delightfully energetic show that is woman-driven and relationship-positive. Songwriter Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater (of Disney fame) create numbers specifically for theatrical production of the movie-inspired script. Ear-pleasing harmonies abound in an extravaganza of song, dance and sisterhood.

Iron Crow Theatre announced that Baltimore native and Broadway playwright James Magruder has joined the production team of Head Over Heels. Magruder adapted Head Over Heels (original concept by Jeff Whitty) for its original Broadway run and will assist in the Baltimore premiere.

GHOST THE MUSICAL at Toby’s Dinner Theater in Columbia, based 1990's movie Ghost, starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, offers romance, drama and retro vibes. The 1955 tune “Unchained Melody” strings the whole thing together. Cast and orchestra are harmonic and wonderfully watchable. Production values are excellent and dinner is delicious.

Craig Pettinati's staging of Sweeney Todd at the Kensington Arts Theatre is bursting with bright, young talent that promises theater traditions will be faithfully kept by a new generation. Berkeley Playhouse will continue its 2011-12 season with LUCKY DUCK, a modern "Ugly Duckling" fairy tale hatched by the creative team behind the Broadway hits Dreamgirls and Side Show. Kimberly Dooley (Seussical, the Musical) directs this musical for all ages, with musical direction by Ben Prince. Featuring a madcap cast of fairy tale characters and a hot pop score filled with R&B, gospel, and plenty of Broadway-style showstoppers, LUCKY DUCK plays April 21 through May 13 at the Julia Morgan Theatre in Berkeley.
