Boston Playwrights' Theatre (BPT) presents the 19th annual Boston Theater Marathon and the ninth year of The Warm-Up Laps. This year's Boston Theater Marathon features 50 ten-minute plays, written by 53 New England playwrights, and produced by 50 New England theatres in ten hours.

Athena Theatre selected eight playwrights for its playwriting group, Athena Writes, assembled for a one-year exploration of the theme 'A New Memory'.  It centers on Athena Theatre's commitment to supporting new works that push the boundaries of live theatre. WAM Theatre is delighted to announce that their 2017 Fresh Takes Play reading series will begin with The Flora and Fauna by Alyson Mead, winner of the Arizona-based Bridge Initiative: Women in Theatre New Work Contest.  The play chronicles the celebrations and challenges of a female friendship that spans almost 30 years. Additionally, this opening reading of the Fresh Takes Series will be a partnership with the Berkshire Festival of Women Writers, with a portion of the box office proceeds from the reading going to the Festival.

The Centers for the Arts Bonita Springs has selected the winning plays for its inaugural playwriting competition, Stage It! 10-Minute Play Festival.
