YBCA to Present Bill T. Jones' West Coast Premiere of ANALOGY/DORA


 MacArthur Genius and legendary choreographer Bill T. Jones, and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company return to Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) to present the West Coast premiere of Analogy/Dora: Tramontane, a portrait of perseverance, resourcefulness, and resilience. This new performance is based on an oral history Jones conducted with his 95-year-old mother-in-law Dora Amelan, a French-Jewish nurse and social worker and survivor of World War II. Analogy/Dora began 12 years ago as a gift Jones created for his longtime collaborator and husband, Bjorn Amelan, and his family.

Analogy began twelve years ago, simply, as a gift Jones created for his longtime partner and collaborator, Bjorn Amelan and his family. Dora Amelan's harrowing, touching and inspirational story is broken into 25 episodes that become the basis for choreography, narrative and music. These episodes chronicle her early family life, her mother's death as the Germans were marching into Belgium, her journey onwards to France and the loss of further family members during the war. Arriving in Vichy France she encounters the internment camps of Gurs and Rivesaltes, where she devotes herself to working for a Jewish underground organization. Dora currently lives in Paris and will attend the premiere.

The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, New York Live Arts' Resident Dance Company, today announced the launch of a new partnership with Loyola Marymount University (LMU). The partnership with the Los Angeles based university marks the first of its kind, adding to the Company's existing collegiate education programs. Spanning a total of four years, the partnership will bring the Company's works and their pedagogical and performative philosophy to LMU's campus and the Los Angeles area.

New York Live Arts Announces Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company's 2014-2015 Touring Season


The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, New York Live Arts' Resident Dance Company, announced today the touring programs and productions for the 2014-2015 Season. The Company will perform and conduct residencies in more than 11 cities in eight states over the next 12 months, making their debut at a number of venues across the U.S. Highlights of the 2014-2015 Season include the New York City premiere of Story/Time (35, 36, 37 & 38) November 4 - 8 and 11 - 15 on the Company's home stage at the New York Live Arts theater; the world premiere of Analogy (working title) in June 2015 at Montclair State University; the Company debut at Dancers' Workshop in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and more. Touring programs for the 2014-2015 season include Analogy (working title), the Company's newest work; Story/Time; Play and Play: An Evening of Movement and Music; Body Against Body; and A Rite.

Bill T. Jones and Bjorn Amelan to Receive STREB's Action Maverick Award, 5/8


What is an Action Maverick? An original. A person that breaks the rules, re-interprets or establishes new parameters of their craft. A risk taker. A hero. Each year STREB honors the courage, strength, openness, and interdependence that both STREB and SLAM embody as we honor a fellow Action Maverick. This year's honorees are one of the most celebrated dancers/choreographers of the last century, Bill T. Jones and his enormously talented sculptor/designer partner, Bjorn Amelan. The evening is again hosted by wickedly funny satirist, Kate Clinton, with her customary sass and wit. Cynthia Mayeda serves as Honorary Chair. It begins at 7pm with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and a Silent Auction. Dinner and the Awards ceremony begins at 8pm, including a Live Auction and special performances by Indie String Quartet ETHEL and the STREB Extreme Action Company

Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company's NEW YORK LIVE ARTS to Launch Tour at Festival de Marseille


The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, New York Live Arts' resident dance company, today announced the touring programs and productions for the 2013-2014 season, continuing the Company's 30th anniversary celebrations. The Company will perform in 13 cities in three countries over the next 10 months, making their debut at a number of venues across the U.S. and abroad. The tour kicks off with the Company's debut at the Festival de Marseille, in Marseille, France, on June 19 with a residency and performances of Play and Play: an Evening of Movement and Music. Other touring programs of the 2013-2014 season include A Rite, with Anne Bogart's SITI Company; Story/Time; Body Against Body; and /Time: Study I, a new site-specific work.

The theme of inquiry is particularly evident in the thirtieth season celebration, Play and Play: An Evening of Movement and Music, presented at The Joyce Theater. Play and Play is, as it turns out, a masterfully assembled works-in-progress showing of two current pieces, "Ravel: Landscape or Portrait?" and "Story/."
