Bring the whole family to enjoy Massenet’s Cendrillon, adapted from Perrault’s timeless "Cinderella" story. This delightful opera, directed by James Marvel, making his Company debut, with conductor Alexandra Enyart returning to Orlando to conduct the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in the pit, is an enchanting take on the classic Cinderella tale -- full of fun, laughter, and gorgeous music. Soprano Lindsay Ohse returns to Orlando in the title role of a young woman tormented by her stepmother and step-sisters, who dreams of her Prince Charming. With the help of a wish-granting fairy godmother, she does capture her Prince's attention, but Cendrillon must practice patience and perseverance to finally have her wish granted. We all know what happens in the end, but the journey of love and desire this opera takes you on is nothing less than truly magical.
Next weekend, a star-studded cast takes the stage in Steinmetz Hall as Opera Orlando presents Massenet's Cendrillon, a sumptuous French retelling of the classic Cinderella story. Soprano Lindsay Ohse returns to the Company as the classic heroine Cinderella, having last sung Gilda in the 2021-22 season production of Rigoletto, which was the first opera to be produced in Steinmetz Hall.
Fairy tales come to life as Cendrillon [Cinderella] takes the stage of Steinmetz Hall with Grammy award-winner Lindsay Ohse in the title role. Performances run February 7 and 9.
After a competitive grant review process, the Opera received a programming support grant from Dr. Phillips Charities underwriting the Opera’s upcoming production of Massenet’s Cendrillon.
