Valencia College Theater Explores Creation, Mythology in Premiere of New Play

By:

From the tales of Zeus and Cronos to African folklore, the Babylonian myths of Marduk to the Big Bang Theory, mankind has always explored the great questions of humanity. In a new play written by Valencia College theater chairman and veteran director John DiDonna, the Valencia College Theater will explore the creation myths throughout history.

The play, which will premiere at Valencia's East Campus on April 7 and run through April 16, is a visual and storytelling adventure, which utilizes dance, large-scale puppetry, projections and movement to immerse the audience in the creation myths of human history.

Written and directed by John DiDonna, "Creation: Births of Mythology" features choreography by Dion Leonhard, puppetry coaching and design by Rebekah Lane, projections by Dana Mott and stage combat direction by Bill Warriner. The play's original music was written by Les Caulfield; sound is designed by David Rauschkolb and Anthony Marshall. Sonia Pasqual designed the set and lighting, while Shirley Hoang designed the costumes.

The play will be performed in Valencia's Black Box Theater, located in Building 3 on Valencia's East Campus. Due to the intimate setting of the Black Box Theater, late seating cannot be accommodated. Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to show time.

General admission tickets cost $12. Senior citizens, Valencia faculty, staff and students may purchase tickets for $10. Tickets can be purchased online at www.valenciacollege.edu/arts.

Tickets and more information are also available by calling the college box office at 407-582-2900.
