King Center and Cocoa Village Playhouse Host Summer Musical Theatre Project OKLAHOMA!, 7/13-15
The King Center for the Performing Arts of Brevard Community College and The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse present the first annual Summer Musical Theatre Project. Through special arrangements with R & H Theatricals, N.Y, N.Y. and under the direction of Anastacia Hawkins-Smith, the students in this project will be participating in 3 performances of Rodgers & Hammerstein's OKLAHOMA! on the King Center Stage July 13, 14 & 15.
This four-week project with experienced professionals focuses on skills such as auditioning, acting and stage experience, casting, dance, narration, orchestra and behind-the- scene support roles. The project also includes chat backs with industry guests and educational studies on Rodgers & Hammerstein and the birth of musical theatre and life study skills.
This program is available to students entering 9th grade in the fall of 2012, currently enrolled high school students including graduating seniors of the 2011-2012 school year, and college freshmen including students entering their sophomore year in the fall of 2012.
The project will run from June 18th – July 15th with auditions being held the week of June 11th. Classes and rehearsals will be held daily, Monday –Friday from 1-5 pm. Three performances of Oklahoma! will be on July 13, 14 & 15.
