Omaha Performing Arts President Joan Squires Named Professional Of The Year By Industry Publication

By: Dec. 20, 2017

Musical America magazine has named Joan Squires, president of Omaha Performing Arts, one of 30 U.S. professionals they call "Movers and Shapers" for 2017. The award is a tribute to Squires' pioneering leadership and the continued growth and success of Omaha Performing Arts' programming and services. She and other performing arts professionals across the county were honored in a special edition of the magazine.

Squires has worked in arts management for more than 29 years and has led Omaha Performing Arts since its inception in 2002. It is the largest arts organization in Nebraska, presenting a wide variety of performances in Broadway, dance, jazz, popular, family, world music, speakers and more. The organization offers extensive education and community engagement programs, several spanning the entire state. Omaha Performing Arts reaches over 350,000 people per year and has an annual economic impact of $40 million on the community.

She is a voting member for Broadway's Tony Awards and is active in several professional organizations. She has received numerous local awards and honors including the Governor's Arts Award (Thomas C. Woods, III Partner in the Arts) and was named to the Ak-Sar-Ben Court of Honor for her leadership role in the arts.
