NATUREPALOOZA NEBRASKA Is Today at Hardin Hall

By:

Have you ever explored a pit full of snakes or held giant insects in your hands? Or maybe you're curious about water-saving tips and how to be more eco-friendly. No matter what, "NaturePalooza Nebraska" has something for the whole family.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Natural Resources will host the free event from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 30 at Hardin Hall, 33rd and Holdrege streets on East Campus.

"NaturePalooza is a big festival filled with activities all focused on Nebraska's amazing natural resources," said Lisa Pennisi, associate professor of practice. "What's not to love? It's like a Husker game for natural resources."

This year, two themes have been added to the NaturePalooza roster: outdoor skills and sustainability for the home and yard. Visitors can learn how to make turkey calls, cast for bass and build birdfeeders. Scientists from the school will provide interactive stations explaining the science behind Nebraska's water, weather and wildlife.

"Families and youth can experience a fun day learning about science, nature and animals," Pennisi said.
Wildlife Encounters will show live animals and The String Beans will perform live music encouraging kids of all ages to sing and dance.

Local organizations and food trucks will also be at the event. The Lincoln Bike Kitchen, an organization that provides refurbished bikes and parts to community members, will offer free bike tune-ups.

"I look forward to seeing the joy on everyone's faces as they have fun learning about Nebraska's natural resources," Pennisi said. "We invite you to check it out. You may learn a thing or three, bring home some great prizes and learn new ways to help our great state."

Event parking is free. For a complete list of activities and booths that will be featured at NaturePalooza, visit http://go.unl.edu/naturepalooza.
