Theatre Tulsa Unveils New Black Box Theater, Expanding Creative Opportunities For Local Artists
The new venue debuted over the weekend with a sold-out cabaret performance.
Theatre Tulsa has announced the grand opening of its newly renovated studio space — now a fully equipped black box theater — designed to serve as a vibrant, flexible venue for both the organization and the greater Tulsa arts community.
The revamped space – a large rehearsal room converted for theatrical use – now features upgraded lighting, a newly painted ceiling, remodeled entrances and exits, curtains for wing space, custom signage, and more. Thanks to a generous donor, the space also includes 75 brand-new cushioned chairs, enhancing comfort for audiences.
This renovation marks a significant step toward Theatre Tulsa's commitment to becoming a multifaceted arts facility while expanding access to affordable performance venues and opportunities for local creatives.
“This renovation is part of a bold new vision for Theatre Tulsa and for local artists,” said Executive Director Travis Guillory. “It addresses two critical needs — a flexible venue for Theatre Tulsa's smaller-scale productions that are not at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, and a much-needed, affordable space for community performances, concerts, open mic nights, workshops, classes, and other creative programming.”
The new venue debuted over the weekend with a sold-out cabaret performance, showcasing its potential and setting the stage for a diverse array of programming to come.
As part of its landmark 103rd season, Theatre Tulsa is expanding its Off-Broadway Series to feature several productions in the new space, including Cabaret, The Crucible, Love Letters, and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
The nonprofit is also seeking a naming rights sponsor for the theater – allowing someone to put their mark on a new era of theatre and the performing arts in Tulsa.
