Julius Caesar at Shakespeare in the Square

Shakespeare in the Square, NYU's premiere Shakespeare performance club, presents Julius Caesar, Spring 2026.

This production explores the radical intersections of power, violence and queerness: Cassius and Brutus, the main conspirators behind Caesar's death, grapple with their love for each other throughout the assassination of Julius Caesar and its bloodier aftermath. This production is FREE and OPEN TO PUBLIC. Donations collected during our performances April 24th through the 26th will go towards New York Immigration Coalition, an umbrella advocacy group that connects and supports over 200 immigrant and refugee rights groups.

Harry "Xueyun" Zhai and Audrey Cohen are directing this queer rendition of Julius Caesar.

Harry "Xueyun" Zhai (Director, Producer, he/they) is is an actor and a writer based in New York. Their work has ranged from professional outdoors Shakespeare(Smith Street Stage) to literary magazines(Livinia Press). Julius Caesar is their directorial debut.

Audrey Cohen (Assistant Director, Co-Producer; they/them/she) is a queer actor and director, and they are thrilled to be back directing with Shakespeare in the Square after co-adapting and directing an original production of Hamlet with SITS last semester! You can usually find Audrey basking in the sun or petting a cat when they’re not thinking about Julius Caesar. #freeiran
