Mermaid Sand Productions and Kid Brooklyn Productions announced today that they will produce Sarah Shaefer's searing drama The Gin Baby, directed by Daniel Talbott, January 19 through February 2, 2014 at the IRT Theater in downtown Manhattan.

No longer able to self-medicate with alcohol and in a desperate search for escape, a young woman finds herself standing on The Edge of the 1 train subway platform. She faces the train as it roars into the station, and then faces the consequences as she commits herself to a psych ward in one last attempt to commit to herself.

Directed by Daniel Talbott, the production team includes Evan Caccioppoli (producer/Kid Brooklyn Productions), Addie Johnson-Talbott (producer), John McDermott (scenic design), Tristan Raines (costume design), Kia Rogers (lighting design), Janie Bullard (sound design), Kaitlyn Pietras (video and projection design) and Jack Doulin, CSA (casting director).

Previews of The Gin Baby begin January 19, 2014 ahead of a January 20th opening. Performances continue through February 2, 2014; Wednesday through Sunday at 8:00 pm; at IRT Theater (154 Christopher Street, 3rd Floor, between Washington St. and West Street; Subway: 1 to Christopher Street). Tickets are $18 and may be purchased in advance at http://www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 800-838-3006.

The Gin Baby will be produced, in part, by Kori Rushton and IRTs Residency Season. http://irttheater.org
