The Brick Theater, inc. presents THE IRANIAN THEATER FESTIVAL

Iran stands at the crossroad of some of the oldest civilizations in history. As heir to Persian, Assyrian, Sumetic, Arab and other cultures, Iranian theater and performance from ancient times through today has been a vibrant hybrid. Yet Iranian theater is underrepresented on American stages, despite thriving Iranian communities across the country and a renewed world interest in U.S.-Iranian affairs.

The Brick proposes to expand the boundaries of this cultural moment, and collaborate with Iranian theater artists in the U.S. and abroad, by hosting and producing

The Iranian Theater Festival in March 2011 to coincide with the Iranian New Year, Nowruz.

The festival will celebrate and engage audiences with Iranian theater in the following ways:

1. Presenting Iranian performance works, from the classical period to modern (pre-revolutionary) works, to contemporary theater in Iran and in the expatriate community, working with both new and established Iranian artists.

2. Promoting dialogue among Iranian and U.S. artists and audiences about these works and their messages.

3. Developing new partnerships between Iranian artists and communities, both in New York and internationally.
