Concrete Temple Theatre proudly presents the World Premiere of Alone in Triptych, written by Renee Philippi and co-directed by Eric Nightengale and Renee Philippi. Alone in Triptych runs from March 13 - 30, 2014 in a limited engagement at HERE, located at 145 6th Avenue (Enter on Dominick, 1 block south of Spring) in New York City. Performances are Wednesdays - Saturdays at 8:30pm, Mondays at 8:30pm and Sundays at 4pm. From the critically acclaimed Concrete Temple Theatre comes Alone in Triptych, an alternately thrilling, disturbing and darkly humorous play that investigates the hidden connections between three people linked by their aloneness. On their journeys of self-discovery, mythology collides with the modern world to reveal a universe filled with vivid imaginary, haunting music and a heightened poetic language. Emotional, vivid and hauntingly lyrical, this exploration of isolation and connection promises to be an evening of intense, intimate revelations.
The cast includes Vera Beren (Automatic Earth at Signature Theatre, House of Bugs at Ontological, Charles Mee's Fire Island at 3 Legged Dog), Catherine Porter (Co-Founder/Artistic Director of Obie Award-winning Peculiar Works Project, 2010 NYTheatre.com Person of the Year) and Michael Tomlinson (Uncle Vanya, Pal Joey and The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie at Royal National Theatre London).
The creative team includes Carlo Adinolfi (Set & Lighting Design), Stefan Hagen (Projection Design), Vera Beren (Sound Design) and Amy Rose Marsh (Dramaturg). Casey McLain is the Production Stage Manager.Renee Philippi (Writer & Co-Director) is Artistic Director of Concrete Temple Theatre with Carlo Adinolfi. Over the past 25 years, she's been writing and directing in NYC and has toured work nationally at The Yard, Dixon Place, Bard Summerscape, HERE, St. Ann's Warehouse, Hudson Opera House, Pontine Theatre, Nantucket Historical Society, Ice Factory Festival, and internationally in Sri Lanka, India, Bulgaria, Turkey, Italy, Scotland and Costa Rica. Renee has created thirteen original works in the past ten years. Most recently, Geppetto at HERE in June 2013, which went on to Bard Summerscape, a 7-city tour of Northern Italy, and Costa Rica. She has worked with Spiderwoman Theatre, is an alumna of Women's Project Directors Forum, a member of Lincoln Center's Directors Lab, New Georges and The League of Professional Theatre Women. She has been an Artist-in-Residence with Mabou Mines, Playwrights Center Minneapolis, St. Ann's Puppet Lab, Directors Company, Nantucket Historical Association, Workspace for Choreographers, The Flea, Hudson Opera House, The Yard, Dixon Place and Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Eric Nightengale's (Co-Director) New York directing credits include work at Cherry Lane Theatre, The River Ensemble, Ensemble Studio Theatre, 59E59, Soho Rep, Circle Repertory Theatre, The Acting Company, Circle in the Square and Classic Stage Company. Eric has served as Artistic Director for Anchorage Theatre in Louisville, Zone 9 Productions in Indianapolis and Actors Repertory Theatre in Chicago. His Chicago directing credits include work with Victory Gardens Theatre, Bailiwick Repertory Theatre, Steppenwolf, Chicago Dramatists Workshop and Second City. Eric served as Artistic Director of 78th Street Theatre Lab in New York City from 1995-2008 and is currently part of the core company at the Acme Corporation in Baltimore.
Concrete Temple Theatre is a multi-disciplinary company that emphasizes the creation of compelling new theatre works, incorporating drama, dance, puppetry, music, and the visual arts, which focus on the individual's struggle for identity and society's struggle for cohesion. Through touring their shows and presenting workshops in New York City, nationally, and internationally, Concrete Temple strives to bring myth and ritual back to the center of dialogue, while making connections and opportunities for diverse audiences to question and examine their place in the world.
Concrete Temple's production of Bird Machine was described by The Village Voice as "An engaging piece of experimental theater...The troupe dazzles," and Back Stage highlighted the show as a "Critic's Pick." The New York Times praised their World Premiere of Geppetto saying, "Carlo Adinolfi gives a compelling performance" and the play "celebrates human ingenuity." The Independent (UK) called their production of Alberto's Great Escape "a delightful show" and Daily Mail (UK) said their production of The Whale "deserves to be seen." "Ambitious production is the norm for Concrete Temple, a creative ensemble with a strong focus on ritual theatre, multi-disciplinary storytelling and the collective experience," says The Brooklyn Rail.
