MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, Artistic Directors; William Cantler, Associate Artistic Director; Blake West, Executive Director) is committed to the cultivation of new voices and to the creation of innovative work through its programs for emerging artists.  This mission extends beyond MCC Theater's main stage as The MCC Theater Youth Company presents their seventh annual UNCENSORED, an evening of new works by NYC high school students, who are encouraged to unleash their imaginations and express themselves, free of censorship.  UNCENSORED runs May 1 – 3 at 7:00 p.m. at The Zipper Theatre (336 West 37th Street) for three nights only.

The MCC Theater Youth Company is a free after-school program for New York City public high school students interested in playwriting and acting.  The company offers weekly acting and playwriting labs, led by theater professionals.  Approximately 50 high school students, representing all five boroughs of New York City, are part of the Youth Company.  MCC Theater Founding Artistic Director Bernard Telsey explained, "This groundbreaking program is designed to inspire young people to discover and express themselves in a safe environment where they are encouraged to develop their unique artistic abilities.  MCC Theater is proud to support this ongoing effort and we are continually gratified by the extraordinary response and achievements of our students."

UNCENSORED is an evening of original monologues, scenes, music and ensemble pieces, addressing sexuality, family, love, relationships and other issues related to the often-complex and exhilarating challenge of being a teenager in New York.   UNCENSORED presents the participants' artistic talents without censorship, giving audiences a rare, unrestricted glimpse into the hearts and minds of the next generation of theater artists.

Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students.  Seating is limited and reservations are highly recommended.  For reservations and additional performance information, please contact MCC Theater at (212) 727-7722 ext. 228.

Now in its 21st season, MCC Theater is one of New York City's leading off-Broadway theater companies, presenting New York and world premieres. Since the theater was founded in 1986, its mission has been simple and consistent: to bring new theatrical voices to theater-going audiences.  MCC Theater continues to accomplish this yearly through main stage presentations, its Literary Program, which actively seeks and develops new and emerging writers and its Education and Outreach Programs, allowing more than 800 students yearly to experience theater, increase literacy and discover their own voices in the arts.  Notable MCC Theater highlights include: the 2004 Tony-winning production of Bryony Lavery's Frozen; Neil LaBute's Fat Pig; Rebecca Gilman's The Glory of Living; Marsha Norman's Trudy Blue; Margaret Edson's Pulitzer prize-winning Wit; Tim Blake Nelson's The Grey Zone and Alan Bowne's Beirut.  Over the years, the dedication to the work of new and emerging artists has earned MCC Theater a variety of industry awards.  For more information and a complete production history, visit www.MCCTheater.org.
