In Roadkill Confidential: a noir-ish meditation on brutality, a possibly rogue g-man stalks a stalled-out artist with a suspicious affinity for accident victims. Traps are set, traps are sprung, and everyone gets caught.

Roadkill Confidential tackles, with style, humor and high theatricality, mediated violence and the numbness it produces, and, whether in art or in global politics, the ends can justify the means. The play was commissioned and developed by Clubbed Thumb with support from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Multi-Arts Production Fund, with additional development at The Playwrights Center, The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, and 3LD.

Sheila Callaghan is currently a writer for the Showtime original series United States of Tara. Her plays have been produced and developed with Soho Rep, Playwrights Horizons, Clubbed Thumb, Actors Theatre of Louisville, New Georges and Rattlestick Theatre. Sheila is the recipient of the Princess Grace Award for emerging artists, a Jerome Fellowship from the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis, a MacDowell Residency, a Cherry Lane Mentorship Fellowship, the Susan Smith Blackburn Award and the Whiting Award. Her plays include Scab, Crawl Fade To White, Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake), Dead City, Lascivious Something and That Pretty Pretty; or, The Rape Play.

Kip Fagan's directing credits include Sam Hunter's Jack's Precious Moment (P73 at 59E59), Sheila Callaghan's Recess (The Flea), Zayd Dohrn's Reborning (SPF), Sheila Callaghan's That Pretty Pretty; or, The Rape Play (Rattlestick Theatre) Jennifer Haley's Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom (Humana Festival) and Rachel Hoeffel's Quail (Clubbed Thumb). Kip is a co-founder of Printer's Devil in Seattle. Later this fall he'll be directing Heidi Schreck's There Are No More Big Secrets at Rattlestick.

Critical acclaim for Sheila Callaghan's plays

"[Callaghan's] a gutsy writer with a gift for creating vivid images rooted in the emotional life of her characters." ~ The New York Times on Crawl, Fade To White

"Wonderful...pleasingly witty...[Callaghan] writes with a world-weary tone and has a poet's gift for economical description." ~ The New York Times on Dead City

"Her manic, angry, deftly constructed That Pretty Pretty; or, The Rape Play whipsaws between laughs and squirms." ~ TimeOut NY

3LD Art & Technology Center creates and supports challenging large-scale art within a financially sustainable environment. Their goals are to create viable growth oriented business models for experimental art production, revitalize the experimental tradition in New York by improving the working conditions and quality of production, and foster a community of artists who work cooperatively and aggressively to address their own barriers. In order to achieve these goals, they create, re-distribute and re-imagine resources that drive core cost reduction while increasing capacity and revenue. (www.3ldnyc.org)
