La Mama will continue its new Monday Nights at La Mama series -- a signature program of the company's 50th anniversary season -- on Monday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. at La MaMa (74 E. 4 St.) with an evening of New World Music featuring Bjork percussionist Manu Delago and the 24-member Bjork choir, Graduale Nobili, along with veteran La MaMa musicians Peter Gordon and Kit Fitzgerald.

Manu Delago and Graduale Nobili will make their La MaMa debuts with the New World Music evening. The evening of New World Music marks a homecoming for Peter Gordon and Kit Fitzgerald -- both of whom have performed countless times at La MaMa. La MaMa's 50th anniversary season is, in fact, titled its Homecoming season.

The evening of music and jam session with young artists and veteran musicians is performed against a backdrop of multimedia visuals. Ms. Yoo states, "The evening speaks to La MaMa's commitment to the intergenerational dialogue between artists."

With its new MONDAY NIGHTS AT LA MAMA series, La MaMa is excited to welcome home alumni who have been instrumental in shaping the legacy of La MaMa. On select Mondays throughout the season, the theatre will host performances and intimate conversations by some of art's greatest innovators, whose commitment and dedication are helping ensure that La MaMa remains an artistic home for future artists as it has been for them. The series kicked off last year with Elizabeth Swados' acclaimed composition "The La MaMa Cantata" followed by "Meredith Monk in Conversation." Future Monday night programs are expected to feature Tan Dun, Julie Taymor and Philip Glass.

Manu Delago is a world-renowned percussionist and Hang player. Since 2007 he has performed internationally in more than 20 countries on five continents and provided music for film. Manu Delago is the percussionist and hang player for the Björk Biophilia residencies in 2011 and has performed in Manchester and Reykjavík.

Graduale Nobili was founded in the autumn of 2000. The Icelandic choir is comprised of 24 girls who have been selected from among those who have sung with the Langholtskirkja Graduale Choir. All the members of the choir have pursued musical studies, and many aim for a career in music. The choir was well received and after its first independent concert, critics heaped praise upon the new choir. The choir participated in the European Youth Choirs Competition at Kalundborg, Denmark, in April 2001, where it was placed second.

Peter Gordon is an American experimental composer and musician, whose music draws from influences as diverse as jazz, opera, rock and world music. He first gained attention in the late 70's with the Love of Life Orchestra - one of the first "downtown" composer-driven ensembles, frequently featured at La Mama. His ongoing collaboration with Kit Fitzgerald has included PASSION OF PASSION and SPECTACOLO, both at La MaMa. In addition to his own work, and that with his Love of Life Orchestra, he has appeared on or composed music for albums by Laurie Anderson, Suzanne Vega, David Johansen, The Flying Lizards, David Van Tieghem, Lawrence Weiner, and Arthur Russell. Most recently, Gordon wrote the scores for the serial mystery drama "The Necklace", presented by The Talking Band. He also worked on the soundtrack to Desperate Housewives. In 2007, James Murphy and Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem used Gordon's classic Downtown tracks "Beginning of the Heartbreak" and "Don't Don't" to open their highly-acclaimed dance mix Fabriclive 36. In 2010, DFA Records released remixes by Gordon of "Beginning of the Heartbreak/Don't Don't" and "That Hat," cowritten with Arthur Russell. He is an Obie and Bessie Award winner.

Kit Fitzgerald creates gestural works that suggest vibrant moving canvases. Working with the Fairlight Computer Video Instrument (CVI), Fitzgerald generates and orchestrates imagery in real time, creating vivid compositions of color, form, light, time, and sound that unfold by the artist's hand. Since 1985, she has applied this technique of improvisational "video painting" to live music/video performances with musicians, including Peter Gordon, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Max Roach. Fitzgerald won acclaim for her innovative body of video works produced in collaboration with John Sanborn. Fitzgerald is the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Creative Artists Public Service (CAPS) Program.

Tickets to the evening of New World Music are $15 and can be purchased by calling 212 475 7710 or online at www.lamama.org.
