Always Love Lucy Theatre And Shaved Head Media Present SHAKESPEARE ON THE BLOCK

Always Love Lucy Theatre, in partnership with Shaved Head Media, will debut Shakespeare from the Block, its first original production, in July at the Bridge Theatre at Shetler Studios.

Written and directed by Saima Huq, Shakespeare from the Block is comprised of Julisa Ceasar and King Lahiri, short adaptations of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar and The Tragedy of King Lear, two of William Shakespeare's most famous plays.

The plays are set in communities in New York's outer boroughs, in recent times.

Julisa Ceasar is an all-female adaptation, centered around the PTA in the Bronx in 1990. The cast includes: Saima Huq as Julisa Ceasar, Delia Cyrillo as BruTay, Tracy Willet as Cassie, Katie Mack* as Becky, Jessica Davis as Marquantoinette "MQ" and Daniela Zamora as Octavia.

The Fight Director is Meron Langsner PhD, with Edward Fernandez as Fight Captain.

King Lahiri focuses on a bodega owner and his family in Queens in 2012. The cast includes: Siraj Huda as King Lahiri, Saima Huq as Salima, Tony White as Tony, Danish Farooqi* as Daanish, and Arshia Panicker as Chasheen.

Vincent Allen is the lead sound and light designer on all productions of Always Love Lucy Theatre.

Founded in 2014, Always Love Lucy Theatre features actors of color and over age 40 in lead roles. Past productions: Death of a Salesman (2014), Pygmalion (2016), Out Cry (2016) and Hello to Rose: One Act Plays by Tennessee Williams (2017).
