Emily Hammond (Producer) and Rachel Slaven (Director) will present the New York premiere of CANON IN D MINOR as part of the 16th annual New York International Fringe Festival-FringeNYC.

CANONIN D MINOR is a gripping, poetic new play with music. After her best friend takes her own life intheir final year of school, Beth searches for a way to forgive herself for whatshe might have done to prevent it. She glides the bow of her violin through themusic that connected them in this tender and stirring new play aboutfriendship, forgiveness and the power of music to connect us.

CANON IN D MINOR was developed and presented in 2005 at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian premiere was presented in Toronto’s prestigious juried SummerWorks Theatre Festival in 2007. Audiences and critics alike praised the production, with NOW Magazine Toronto deeming it one of the festival’s Outstanding New Plays and Outstanding Productions, and CBC Radio naming it among the Top 5 in the Festival. The 2012 New York International Fringe Festival production will mark the play’s New York premiere, with an exciting new cast of American actors: Suzy Jane Hunt (Stratford Shakespeare Festival's Twelfth Night), Eryn Murman (Broadway's Spring Awakening) and Brittany Parker (St. Ann's Warehouse's Stop the Virgens).

CANON IN D MINOR is written by Toronto based playwright/actor and LAMDA graduate Jessica Liadsky. New York based director Rachel Slaven (assistant director to Daniel Sullivan on THE COLUMNIST, GOOD PEOPLE, ACCENT ON YOUTH on Broadway, assistant director to Des McAnuff on JERSEY BOYS second national tour and TWELFTH NIGHT at Stratford Shakespeare Festival) has helmed all previous productions and will direct this New York premiere. The play is being produced by Emily Hammond (Assistant to the Executive Producer, Barry Grove, at Manhattan Theatre Club).

CANON IN D MINOR will be presented at La Mama’s First Floor Theatre in the East Village (74A East 4th St) The performance schedule is as follows: Friday Aug 10 @ 7:00 pm, Saturday Aug 11 @ Noon,

Sunday Aug 12 @ 7:00 pm, Sunday Aug 19 @ 5:45 pm and Monday Aug 20 @ 5:00 pm.
