PLAY DEAD Kicks-the-Bucket July 24
By: Gabrielle Sierra
PLAY DEAD, the "sensationally entertaining" (The Wall Street Journal) Off-Broadway comic thriller co-written and directed by Teller (of Penn & Teller) and co-written & performed by Todd Robbins, will close its current run in NYC on Sunday, July 24 at 7pm. This "wild, wicked show" (The New York Times) has been making audiences shriek with laughter since its first performance on October 21, 2010 at The Players Theater (115 MacDougal Street at Minetta Lane). The schedule for the final five weeks (beginning Tuesday, June 21) will be as follows: Tuesday - Friday at 8pm; Saturday at 7pm and 10pm; Sunday at 3pm and 7pm.
The final five weeks of PLAY DEAD are the perfect time to experience the show Time Out New York named as one of their "Great Dates," because "it's exactly the kind of show that will leave you pawing each other for comfort." Emmy-winner Neil Patrick Harris called this evening of thrills and chills "A fantastic evening of immersive theater. I loved it! The perfect excuse to grope your date in the dark."
For the past 8 months, Teller and Todd Robbins have left audiences laughing (and squealing) with delight at PLAY DEAD, the acclaimed Off-Broadway show that's part retro spook-show, part thrill-ride and all fun, with stunning magic and amazing illusions. As the guide for the evening, Robbins draws audiences into an unknown haunted world full of frightful surprises and diabolical laughter. PLAY DEAD is a theatrical experience - here and now in an "abandoned" theater, illuminated by a single ghostlight - in which audiences test their nerves and laugh away their fears as they are surrounded by ethereal sights, sounds and even touches of the returning dead - all achieved by wry, suspenseful storytelling and uncanny stage illusions. In addition to Mr. Robbins, the cast of PLAY DEAD includes Geri Berman, Charlotte Pines, Drea Lorraine, April Andres, Don Meehan and Brianna Hurley.
