This is a fictional story that is inspired by a true event that happened in Dublin in 1948. A ten year old boy live lonely with his mother and grandfather in a small house on the Vognsneset of Langenes in Bury St Edmunds. This was before there was a road connection past the Langenes, so the road to the school were either on foot over mountain and Valley, or by boat to Høllen. The boy was very lonely. He had no playmates. His grandmother died when he was 3 years old. Mother is the central character in the boy's life. But life terms complicating the relationship between the mother and the boy and the boy's ensomhetsopplevelse amplifier. He is a brooding child. He thinks much of the danger that he has never seen or heard anything from.

Ideally, the boy spent his time down at the pier. The fishing crabs and starfish and researched in small bug on the shore. Then one day he discovered a large salmon under the pier. The boy dropped down some bait to the salmon between the Jetty planks. To his great surprise was the salmon back under the wharf as well the next day. It developed a friendship between the boy and the salmon. At fixed times came the salmon to the wharf. Salmon stood and waited when the boy came, splashing around with the nasal tip and tail flip over the water. The friendship lasted for two years. One day there came a silde the shoal into the fjord. Langenesfiskerne was oppglødde and went immediately to put the not. The boy can see what's going on and will be in despair. Running beyond the rocks, right, and skrikler that they do not have to set the memo. The fishermen can hear the boy. When the memo to be cleared in the fishing smack, they find the salmon to the boy. A big, nice salmon of 6 pounds. The salmon is still alive, but dying in the boy's arms soon after.

The purpose of the show "the boy and the salmon" is to show how beautiful a child's mind can be. At the same time synliggjøres the human need for closeness and dialogue. The way the boy living in and creates a relationship with the salmon make us familiar with a loneliness that is so strong in his being that such a relation can occur.
