The Opera is based on the play of the same name by August Strindberg. The music is inspired by Joseph Haydn's beautiful and unconventional Jesus ' seven last words on the cross, and these sentences interweave in and sung by a choir, kommenterende. Together with the nine strings and piano, they form the musical soundboard to Strindberg's drama.
Gisle kverndokk has marked himself as one of Norway's foremost opera composers with their last major productions the fourth night watch and around the world in 80 days at the Norwegian National Opera & ball.
Easter is commissioned by the Bergen National Opera and has been developed through the AdOpera!-network. The show is produced by Opera South.
