BOOK OF DAYS, QUARTET & More Set for CAT Theatre's 2014-15 Season

By:

CAT Theatre has announced the 51st season for Richmond's professional theatre with a community heart. For the 2014-2015 season, CAT has selected the following plays:

Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure
Adapted by Steven Dietz, based on the original 1899 play by William Gillette and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Winner of the 2007 Edgar Award for Best Mystery Play.
October 24 through November 8, 2014

In Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure it seems as if the world's greatest detective has reached the end of his remarkable career, but then he is confronted with a case far too tempting to ignore. When the King of Bohemia faces blackmail by famed opera singer, Irene Adler, Holmes and his faithful companion Dr. Watson find themselves falling into the trap of evil genius Professor Moriarty. As Holmes says, "The game is afoot Watson, and it is a dangerous one!"

Book of Days
By Lanford Wilson
January 23 through February 7, 2015

CAT's 2015 entry into the Acts of Faith Festival is Lanford Wilson's Book of Days, a story that is funny, tragic, and a poignant murder mystery. Dublin, Missouri is a small town in America's Heartland where three institutions in town, a cheese plant, a fundamentalist church, and a community theater provide the backdrop for Wilson's characters who are remarkable both for their comic turns and for their enormous depth. Alvin Klein of the New York Times said, "Mr. Wilson's cosmic consciousness, intense moral concern, sense of human redemption and romantic effusion have climbed to a new peak."

Now Then Again
By Penny Penniston
March 20 through April 4, 2015

One might not think that the Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory is the ideal setting for romance, but in Now Then Again Penny Penniston has written the story of Ginny and Henry, who find love and a future together in spite of obstacles like his neuroses, her husband and a full disbelief in destiny. The script is funny and captivating even as it requires a basic understanding of quantum mechanics, but Penniston makes that easy enough so that you can follow the love story as well as feel smarter because you've seen the show. Penniston is a native Virginian and attended St. Catherine's School in Richmond.

Quartet
By Ronald Harwood

In Quartet, three former opera singers live in a home for retired musicians in Kent, England. Annually they stage a concert to celebrate Verdi's birthday. But, just as they are planning the event, another opera diva arrives and upsets the balance of their community. What transpires is charming, heartwarming and uproariously funny.

CAT Theatre loves to welcome new artists and directors to become a part of the CAT family. To be considered for the opportunity to work at CAT either as a director or as a designer, please send your resume and letter of intent indicating the show(s) you are most interested in directing or designing.
