AUDITION NOTICE FOR 2018 HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL PRODUCTION:


THE GODDESSES GUIDE: ADURA FOR THE WOMEN OF AFRICAN DIASPORA

World premiere of one act play written and directed by Camille Jenkins

Description:

Follow the revealing journey of three Yoruba goddesses as they grapple with the responsibility of creating a guide for black women trying to survive in a world that doesn't always allow them to thrive.

When summoned by three modern day women, Oba, Oshun, and Oya, powerful Orisha sisters, attempt to make sense of societal obstacles unique to women of African Diaspora. They discover that the task at hand is challenging, even for goddesses.

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts

*There is free parking after 5pm in a parking garage at 450 North Rexford Drive
Beverly Hills CA 90210. There is a 5 minute walk from the garage to the audition location.

*Please note this production is not affiliated with The Wallis. The auditions/rehearsals are just being held at this location.


CAST BREAKDOWN*

Woman 1/Oya:
A black woman in her late 20s to mid-30s. She is the goddess of change,winds, lightning, and violent storms, death and rebirth. She is the oldest of the three sisters. She is proud, daring, and fierce.

Woman 2/Oba:
A black woman in her mid-20s to late 20s. She is the goddess of motherhood, loyalty and faith. The middle sister. She is caring, sensitive, and maternal.

Woman 3/Oshun:
A black woman in her early 20s. She is the goddess of fertility, love, and sensuality. Strikingly beautiful, which is seen in her personality and her physical features.

*All actors must be comfortable singing one song acapella and doing some movement/choreography. However, you do not need to be a professional singer or dancer.


REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE DATES*

Rehearsals:
April 16 to June 22
Mostly Monday and Thursdays from 7-10pm
No rehearsals the week of May 28th
Except for the week of June 18th there will never be more than two rehearsals each week.
*Will consider some rehearsal conflicts

Performances:
Friday June 22 at 8pm
Saturday June 23 at 2pm & 8pm
Sunday June 24 at 2pm

Performances and two tech rehearsals will be at:

SCHEDULING AND PREPARATION OF AUDITION

Scheduling:

Preparation:
Please prepare one 60-90 second dramatic/dramedy monologue in a West African dialect if possible (not mandatory but, encouraged).


PAYMENT

This is a volunteer position. However, if any profit is made from the show, the monies will be split between the 3 actors and 1 stage manager.
