I AM HARVEY MILK - MenAlive - Orange County Gay Men's Chorus

MenAlive, the Orange County Gay Men’s Chorus, under the direction of Bob Gunn, will present Andrew Lippa’s choral masterwork “I Am Harvey Milk” on July 20 and 21st, 2018 at the Barclay Theatre in Irvine. The piece calls for three soloists: Tenor, Soprano and Boy Soprano (details below). All soloists sing alone as well as, at times, with each other and the full Chorus.

“I Am Harvey Milk” weaves the story of Harvey Milk’s life – from boyhood to his rise as the first openly gay man to hold public office in California to his assassination. Part choral work, part theater piece, I Am Harvey Milk is an emotional celebration of an American icon.

Auditions will be held Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 pm at:

Roles:
HARVEY MILK (Tenor): Range: B3 – A5. The central role in the piece. Please prepare 32 bars of a contemporary musical theatre song that shows vocal range and acting ability. Age – 30’s or 40’s. Resemblance to Harvey Milk, himself, not required. All races.

SOPRANO: Range: Bb4 – A6. At times, represents Harvey Milk’s mother. Please prepare 32 bars from the classical vocal repertoire in English; aria or art song; demonstrating vocal range and acting ability. Age – 30’ or 40’s. All races.

YOUNG HARVEY (Boy Soprano): Range Bb4 – D5. Harvey Milk as a young boy. Those auditioning will be taught a brief passage from the score to evaluate range and vocal quality. All races.
