Hopeful Monsters

2 female, 3 male 12-18 years old
3 adult females 4 adult males

Like most seventeen-year-old's at a large, big city high school, Nate is
struggling to find direction. His mother is always setting him up with good
girls. His father preaches to him about good choices. Now, dressed only in
his underwear, Nate hides in Rita's mother's closet. Outside the closet
door, Rita's mother, brothers and grandmother are loudly grilling her as to
whether or not she has a boy in the house. This is not what Nate envisioned
when they planned an after school tryst. Three weeks after clumsily falling
out of the closet, Nate now works on a family friend's ranch in Idaho. There
he meets Digger, the philosophical ranch foreman and Susan the ranch owner's
niece. Classy Susan is the polar opposite of Rita, and Nate is in love.
Romantic horseback rides and hikes into the hills are suddenly and publicly
disrupted when Rita and her family show up at the local town's Fourth of
July celebration. Hopeful Monsters is a story of teenage, love, lies, hurt,
fun, angst, joy, and the reality of growing up.

The Second Time Around

4m, 4f
Parts for Senior Actors

SAMUEL JONAS - a widower just past sixty-five, alert, spritely, attractive,
a nice human being.
LAURA CURTIS - in her mid-sixites, a pleasant, neat, devoted widow, modestly
dressed; pleasing to the eye.
MIKE CURTIS - son of Laura, a mid-thirites, hard-driving young businessman,
with a nervous stomach.
CYNTHIA MORSE - daughter of Samuel, a suburban matron, neurotic,
well-dressed, good-looking.
ELEANOR - Mike's wife, the face and smile of an angel, the soul and strength
of a tyrant.
DR. ARTHUR MORSE - psychiatrist, husband of Cynthia, son-in-law of Samuel.
Himself a bit of a neurotic.
BRUCE MORSE - grandson of Samuel, son of Cynthia and Arthur, sophomore at
Columbia, a nice young man with active libido.
ANGELA - a Barnard sophomore, with an angelic look and a relationship with
Bruce.

Senior citizens Samuel Jonas and Laura Curtis, a widower and a widow, strike
up a love affair. When they announce plans to live together without marrying
so they can keep social security benefits they'd otherwise lose, their
children hit the ceiling even though they were never close to their deceased
parent and their own marriages leave a lot to be desired. Sam's daughter is
married to her ex analyst, a stuffy neurotic, and Laura's son has a wife who
is paranoid about food additives and their sexual performance. All ends well
for the elderly twosome, but not before the entire second generation is in
nervous fits.

Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration remains, in many ways, their
most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of
musical theatre still being followed today. Set in Western Indian territory
just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the
local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which
Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their
love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, love's journey
is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. They will succeed in
making a new life together, providing the ultimate climax to the triumphant
Oklahoma!

June 14 & 15, 6:30pm - 9:00pm

By Neil Simon

Directed By Carolyn McCloskey

At a large, tastefully appointed Sneden's Landing townhouse, the Deputy
Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four
couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for
their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room
and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken, and wife, Chris, must get
the story straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and
mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical
hilarity.

5 Men

5 Women

1 Policeman

1 Female Policeman

All people auditioning will be asked to prepare a memorized 90 second
monologue and be prepared to do cold reading from the script.

KEN GORMAN - (40) A well-to-do lawyer. Wealthy, but by no means pretentious.
Takes
charge of the situation. Married to Chris. Halfway through the show, a
gunshot causes his
temporary deafness.

CHRIS GORMAN - (mid-30's) Another lawyer, married to Ken. Beautiful, easily
flustered.
Frantically tries to maintain normalcy at the party. Has recently quit
smoking, which
drives her to drink a bit more.

LENNY GANZ - (Late 30's, early 40's) - A wealthy accountant, distraught over
the recent
destruction over his new car. Starts the show with an extreme case of
whiplash. Intolerant
of the gossipy-lifestyle that he is often involved in.

CLAIRE GANZ - (Late 30's) - Claire's wife. Very concerned with appearances
(hers and
others'). Starts the play with a swollen lip. Likes to gossip.

ERNIE CUSACK - (Early 50's) - a psychiatrist. Affable, smokes a pipe. Loves
his wife very
much. Tries to be as helpful as possible cooking the evening's dinner.

COOKIE CUSACK - (40's) - has her own cooking show. Suffers from extreme back
spasms.
Loves her husband very much. A bit absent-minded at times.

GLENN COOPER - (30-40) A handsome man running for State Senate. Worried
about his
own reputation. Struggles with placating his wife, who is convinced he is
having an affair
(which he may or may not be).

CASSIE COOPER - (late 20's, early 30's) Glenn's beautiful wife. Obsesses
over her
husbands' relationships with other women. Quick to anger. Must rub her
quartz crystal to
calm herself down.

OFFICER WELCH (M) - (30-50) - A city police officer having a rough night.
Does not
tolerate lying. Sees through the classy façade that these high-society
types put up.

OFFICER PUDNEY (F) - (20-30) - Welch's partner. A strong but silent type.
