'Blood And Silk: The Tale Of Circelae And Alexiel'
Seeking talent for a production of "Blood and Silk: The Tale Of Circelae And Alexiel" by Jeffrey Love.
This new dramatic musical is a gay re-imagining of the legend of Beauty and The Beast. Auditions will be held in Concord, on September 28th at 6:50pm - 10:00pm The production will rehearse starting in late October (with breaks on holidays) and open, on January 11th and run for four performances.
Auditions will be held at St Michael and All Angels Church, 2925 Bonifacio St, Concord, CA 94519
Please come prepared with a song to audition with that shows off your vocal and character range. Also, please prepare a short monologue that demonstrates your acting abilities.

Synopsis: In the land of Alterra, a curse has been placed upon the royal family of Ravenswood. Doomed to spend the rest of his life alone, Prince Alexiel guards nothing but his vacant castle and precious roses, and he finds loneliness to be his only true companion. Circelae Alverdine is a young man thirsting for adventure and looking for his place in life. Longing for his own knight in shining armor, he soon finds adventure in Alterra, and with that, much more than he ever possibly dreamed of. Adapted by the author of the beloved book, Jeffrey L. Love has created stunning orchestrations and a story that is lifted up by the lyrics written by the talented Jo Kiech. The classic story of Beauty and The Beast is showcased in a new light, and asks, what really is love? Is it as fragile as a rose? Join Alexiel and Circelae as they find out what love really is.
Roles Available:
CIRCELAE ALVERDINE - (18-31) A young man who longs for something more in his life, something that brings love and adventure; to the world, he seems fragile and easily broken, but he is tougher than he looks; the actor must be able to portray a diverse range of emotions; the character is also not to be over-sung, and have a more classical fairy tale-style speaking voice. Tenor A to G (above middle C); belt a big plus. (This role is double cast)
GERVASE BEXLEMOORE - (18-55) Alexiel’s confidante and best friend; the two are closer than brothers, and Gervase has nothing but the utmost respect for him; sometimes, though, he does things that initially hurt Alexiel, but he does it for his friend; to make him happy and keep him safe. The actor playing Gervase will portray his younger and older self. Non-singing role.
ANTHONY DE GISBORN - (18-34) one of Circelae’s only friends in Siddlehara; at least, that’s how Circelae sees it; Anthony has taken a liking to Circelae, interested in being with him romantically and when Circelae leaves, Anthony is ready and willing to fight for him; he doesn’t like to lose; he is also fearful of change in the world. Very old fashioned; brother to August; Tenor; low A to high Ab.
QUEEN BLODWYN DE RAVENSWOOD - (35-40) Alexiel’s mother; in the beginning, she is distant from her son; but in truth, she only wants best for Alexiel, and is willing to do what it takes to protect him. Lyric soprano: C (C4) to "high D" (D6). (Rebecca Luker, Patti Cohenour, Audra McDonald sound) She also doubles as Svetlana.
SVETLANA ALVERDINE - (35-40) - Circelae’s stepmother; essentially "the good mother," nurturing her children, worrying about them, scolding them when they misbehave, and shielding them from life's cold, harsh realities as best she can.
KING ORASMYN DE RAVENSWOOD - (35-45) - Alexiel’s father and the former king of Alterra; the perfect father, and perfect king. His son was his pride and joy, and his wife was his everything. He also doubles as Charles Alverdine, Circelae’s father.
CHARLES ALVERDINE - (35-45) - Circelae’s father; a formerly wealthy merchant, he has come on hard times and moves his family far from the city; he is a good-natured, loving father. Easily frightened by superstition. Baritone: low A to F.
AUGUST DE GISBORN - (18-35) - steward of The Village of Siddlehara, stuffy, traditional. The actor will be playing multiple small roles throughout the production. (Speaking role)
THREE VARGULF - Werewolf creatures who guard the Forbidden Forest and serve Alexiel, they communicate in growls and snarls. (Dancers)
THREE LADIES IN WAITING (Alto, Mezzo, Soprano. Ages 22-40
The Sisters of Queen Blodwyn, who try to advise her when she neglects her son; performers will be playing multiple small roles throughout the production;
