Le Petit Theater will debut its new theatre arts education program with a special preview performance of LOMBARDI for public school students as part of "Because We Can," a new initiative to educate New Orleans youths about theatre. In keeping with a desire to partner with local nonprofits, the theater teamed up with the 34 Ways Foundation founded by former New Orleans Saints Cornerback Mike McKenzie. Acclaimed New Orleans musician Kermit Ruffins will also participate in this inaugural educational session. Providing theatre arts education to our city's youth is a key part of the historic community theatre's mission and an important part of Le Petit's comeback in its newly restored facility.

Le Petit's new education program is set take place today, September 5th from 10am to 11am at Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre, 616 Saint Peter.

Le Petit's regular season kicks off Sept. 6 with LOMBARDI. Ron Gural will be directing this play about the legendary Green Bay Packers Coach Vince Lombardi. The students participating in the education program will be treated to an excerpt of the stage play, followed by a question and answer session, moderated by Cassie Worley and Mike McKenzie. Kermit Ruffins will also participate in the question and answer session. They will discuss the importance of character and discipline to achieving success, using the play as an example. Kermit Ruffins will perform for students as they arrive at the theatre.

This is also an excellent opportunity for media to obtain stills and video of the performance before LOMBARDI opens on Friday, Sept. 6. (Photography is not allowed during regular performances)

LOMBARDI itself will run from Sept. 6-21.
