Surflight Theatre Will Honor Lighting Designer Anthony Marinaro at Curtain Call Awards
The NJ Theatre Alliance ceremony at Bell Works also presents a Star Award to Kevin O'Brien of IATSE Local 632
Surflight Theatre will be honoring Anthony Marinaro at the annual New Jersey Theatre Alliance Curtain Call Awards tonight at Bell Works in Homdel. New Jersey Theatre Alliance is the association of Professional Theatres in the State of New Jersey.
The evening's Star Award will be presented to Kevin O'Brien, President of IATSE Local 632, in recognition of his contributions to New Jersey's theatre community. O'Brien has supported the work of the Alliance and its member theatres through his leadership roles, including service on the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, work with Mid Atlantic Arts, and his appointment to the board of the Actors Fund Home of the Entertainment Community Fund.
“Kevin O'Brien represents the very best of what makes New Jersey's theatre community so strong,” said Executive Director John McEwen. “His leadership, advocacy, and deep respect for the collaborative nature of our field have made a lasting impact on artists, technicians, and organizations across the state. Kevin understands that theatre is built through partnership and trust, and his work has helped ensure that New Jersey's theatre sector continues to grow and thrive.”
Awards of Excellence will be presented to production and design professionals from Alliance member theatres, recognizing artistic and technical achievement across the state.
Surflight has chosen to honor Anthony Marinaro with their Award of Excellence. As an integral part of the Surflight staff since 2020, Anthony started as an electrics intern and through many years of outstanding work in lighting, scenic and other disciplines has been a valued staff member of the theatre for many years.
Anthony Marinaro is a NY/NJ based lighting designer. A graduate with his BFA in lighting design from SUNY Purchase College, he has traveled working in dance, theater, and events. Additionally, he works as a designer for Stratford High School in Houston, acting as both a designer and teacher/mentor for the students in the theater arts program. Anthony has been one of the resident designers/electricians for Surflight Theatre for seven years now with nearly 40 design credits with the theater. Past Show credits include: A Chorus Line, State Fair, Legally Blonde, West Side Story, Guys Dolls, and many more
