Shakespeare Theatre Welcomes New Managing Director

By:

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey has announced the appointment of Todd Rosen of Summit, New Jersey, as the company's new Managing Director. Mr. Rosen assumed the position on June 12th.

Rosen holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from Boston University and a Master of Fine Arts in Performing Arts Management from Brooklyn College. He began his career with The Shakespeare Theatre 20 years ago as a member of the acting company appearing in the final three productions staged at the old Bowne Theatre before it was rebuilt into the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre. Mr. Rosen exchanged his actor's hat for that of manager soon after his season with The Shakespeare Theatre and made the move from the stage to behind-the-scenes. At The Flea Theater in New York, Rosen worked as General Manager from 2002 - 2004 after which he was appointed Managing Director until 2006. His extensive career in theatre administration has also included senior positions at Theatre Forward, Classic Stage Company, and The Lark Play Development Center.

Most recently, from 2014 - 2016, Rosen served as Development Director for the Kevin Spacey Foundation, where he raised funds to develop and support emerging artists.

Rosen has also been a member of the Alumni Board for Brooklyn College Managers for the Arts since 2005, the Associate Board for New World School for the Arts since 2013, and the Board of Directors and Membership Chair for Congregation Beth Hatikvah since 2014.

Bonnie J. Monte, the company's Artistic Director since late 1990, said, "I am thrilled to welcome Todd back, thrilled to have such an accomplished man of the theatre by my side, and thrilled that he began his life in the professional theatre here as a young artist 20 years ago! I am confident he will be a great partner as we move onward and upward!"

Board President, Tom Keffer, added, "We are delighted to have Todd join the leadership of our theater. He is a lifelong theater person who brings to us strong experience at prestigious institutions. And he knows us well, having started here as an actor in the 1990s."

One of the leading Shakespeare theatres in the nation, serving nearly 100,000 adults and children annually, it is New Jersey's largest professional theatre dedicated solely to Shakespeare's canon and other world classics. Through its distinguished productions and education programs, the company strives to illuminate the universal and lasting relevance of the classics for contemporary audiences.
