Premier Engineering Corporation SIEMENS Hosts Career and Diversity Day for Students

By: Mar. 27, 2015

A core belief of STEMCivics is that for students to aspire to something, they must experience it. That belief was realized this week as Siemens, one of the premier engineering corporations in the world, gave students a day of experiences that exposed them to many meaningful careers.

Career and Diversity Day at Siemens, held exclusively for the best kids ever, was the kick-off to our friendship with this prestigious organization that shares our passion for bringing exciting opportunities to students.

The entire school spent one day at the magnificent Siemens campus in Plainsboro. It was a privilege to learn from practicing scientists and engineers about required skill sets for success and, more importantly, to engage in scientific and engineering experiences under the guidance of the professionals.

The day was PURPLEfect in every respect.

The engaging activities included Fetal Ultrasound, in which students used imaging equipment to identify a fetus and make measurements; experiencing augmented reality using computer simulations, and using Google Glass in a traffic analysis-and-control environment. There were so many more great sessions led by Siemens. We even learned what's behind the Internet, and how the sites we visit online are tracked, whether we log in to that site or not. Yikes!

In addition, Siemens will assign STEMCivics students a Siemens Quarterly Challenge, in which students must solve a real-world challenging engineering problem designed by Siemens.

This relationship is one that will enhance students' lives and expose them to opportunities they might not otherwise have. Students could even see themselves working at Siemens one day -- wouldn't that be a great experience.
