Newhart Celebrates 50 Years in Showbiz at Bergen PAC, 8/26

By:

Bob Newhart's deadpan delivery and understated wit made him a top stand-up act in the 1960s and a TV star in the 1970s and '80s. Join Bob Newhart at the Bergen Performing Arts Center on March 31st as he celebrates 50 years in show business with special guest star Sally Kellerman.

As a stand-up comedian, Bob Newhart explored the absurdities of everyday life with an underplayed delivery and gentle stammer that earned him three Grammys and the first comedy album, "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart", to reach No. 1 on the Billboard charts. His unique brand of humor translated well to television, where he starred in two of the best-loved sitcoms of the 1970s and 1980s - the Emmy-nominated "The Bob Newhart Show", listed as one of the Top 50 shows of all time by TV Guide and one of the 100 Best by Time and "Newhart", nominated for six Emmys and five Golden Globes, including four for Newhart himself. Newhart featured one of the most jaw-dropping finales ever featured on TV and was named by both TV Guide and TV Land as the most unexpected moments in television history.

In the late 1990s, Newhart returned to touring with his stand-up act and found a whole new audience with supporting roles in "In and Out", "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde" and "Elf". He also took a rare dramatic turn in "ER", which earned Newhart an Emmy nomination, as well as appeared on several episodes of "Desperate Housewives".

Opening for Newhart will be Sally Kellerman. Better known as the infamous Hot Lips Houlihan in Robert Altman's "M*A*S*H" and for being the voice of the Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing commercials. However, Kellerman is also an accomplished musician. Her recently released CD, Sally, features a mixture of contemporary jazzy blues and adult standards with a touch of soulful rock.

Bob Newhart with special guest star Sally Kellerman, presented by Rrazz Entertainment, at the Bergen Performing Arts Center, 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, N.J. on March 31st. Showtime is 8 pm. Tickets start at $29. Tickets can be purchased by calling (201) 227-1030 or online at www.bergenpac.org.
