NJSDA Encore Theatre Company Presents SPRING AWAKENING

NJADA Encore Theatre brings some warmth to a cold winter with it's performances of Spring Awakening. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by
Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the German play Spring Awakening from 1891, by Frank Wedekind. The musical is set in late-19th-century Germany, and tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality. The original Broadway production won 8 Tony Awards, including Tonys for Best Musical, Direction, Book, Score and Featured Actor, and the original cast album received a Grammy Award.

The performances will be held at the Westminster Arts Theatre at Bloomfield College on Friday January 6th at 8:00 PM, Saturday January 7th at 8:00 PM, and Sunday January 8th at 3:00 PM.

This Encore Theatre production of SPRING AWAKENING is directed by Robin Irwin. Robin is an award winning director and producer. She has also appeared on Broadway and in numerous National Tours; Regional and Off-Broadway theaters and television. She has sung with symphony orchestras from Tokyo to Berlin and has done voiceovers for everything from baby food to chain saws. Robin teaches master classes and workshops throughout the country and is a much sought after private coach, with students attending the most prestigious theater programs or booking their first nations tour or Broadway show. She serves as an adjunct faculty at Montclair State University, and in the past at New York University (Tisch), New York Film Academy, The Lee Strasberg Institute of Theater and Film. Executive producer, Montclair State Theater Night Awards; director/producer of 40+ plays, musicals, benefits, and events. She is also the creator of CRACKING THE COLLEGE AUDITION CODE - and has helped guide students into the most prestigious arts institutions. Director of Education Luna Stage 2011-2012. Education: Northwestern University and a Masters in Directing, Roosevelt University.

The show will also feature Perry Award winner, David Maglione as the Music Director, and Zakiya Atkinson as Choreographer

Founded in 2004, the New Jersey School of Dramatic Arts
(www.njactors.org) in Bloomfield, NJ has provided comprehensive
professional acting training for adults, teens and children. More than
3,000 students, some of whom have gone on to pursue professional acting
careers, have taken classes at the school since it opened its doors
eleven years ago.

All proceeds will benefit programs of NJSDA, a 501 C-3 Not-for-profit
educational organization.
