Anne-Carolyn Bird, Joyce Campana and More Set for NJSO's Tribute to Gilbert and Sullivan, 4/21

By:

A quintet of world-class vocalists join the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) and guest conductor Christopher Larkin as the Orchestra celebrates one of the most legendary partnerships in musical history with "A Salute to Gilbert & Sullivan," the third program of the NJSO's 2011–12 POPS series, on Saturday, April 21, 8pm at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark.

Curt Olds brings his baritone voice and charismatic stage presence to the NJSO stage as concert host for the evening. Soprano Anne-Carolyn Bird, mezzo-soprano Joyce Campana, tenor Matt Morgan and bass-baritone Mark Womack also take center stage for the one-night-only performance.

Librettist W.S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan together crafted 14 comic operas. The NJSO program features classics like "I am the very model of a modern Major-General" and "Oh, better far to live and die … I am a pirate king!" from The Pirates of Penzance, "A wandering minstrel, I" and "Three little maids from school are we" from The Mikado, "I'm called Little Buttercup" and "Things are seldom what they seem" from H.M.S. Pinafore and more. The Orchestra will also perform music from Pineapple PollThe Gondoliers and Ruddigore

The performance takes place on Saturday, April 21, (8 p.m.) at NJPAC in Newark.
