An eclectic group of six preteens compete for the spelling championship while sharing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives. Each contestant fears the soul-crushing ding of the bell that signals a misspelled word. Six spellers enter—only one emerges victorious. At least the losers get a juice box. Winner of both the Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is a beloved musical comedy that has charmed audiences nationwide with its wit and heart. The show opened on Broadway at the Circle in the Square Theatre on April 15, 2005, and ran until January 2008. A new production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will return to New York City this fall following a successful run at The Kennedy Center last year.
