The history of Nabucco is part of the confrontation between the Hebrews and the Babylonians with their head to the famous and feared Nebuchadnezzar. The action takes place in Jerusalem and Babylon in 586 BC. Nabucco, King of Babylon conquered Hebrews and reign on Jerusalem. But Fenera darling daughter is taken hostage by Zaccaria, the high priest of the Hebrews who wants to compel Nabucco to get freedom to his people.
Nabucco was commissioned by the Theatre of la Scala in Milan. It is the first triumph of Verdi in the opera, he was 28 years old. The famous chorus "Va Pensiero" became the anthem of the Milanese then occupied by the Austrians. Nabucco built the success of Verdi in his country, as well as the symbol of the struggle against oppression.
