The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company and Blue Lake Public Radio present Blue-Eyed Hag by Jim Lair Beard at the Rose Theatre. The Rose is a beautiful replica Elizabethan playhouse housed at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. The performance will take place on June 3 at 2 p.m.. Tickets are $15 for students and $25 for adults, and are available HERE.
Blue-Eyed Hag is a prequel to Shakespeare's play The Tempest, following the journey of Sycorax, a powerful witch who arrives on the island of Kytiff just in time to interrupt a royal wedding meant to end years of fighting between Kytiff and its rival kingdom of Chauthak. Pigeon Creek performed the play in several West Michigan venues in 2022, and now brings this first ever production of Blue Eyed Hag to the Rose. Shakespeare lovers and those new to the bard will all love this play that is both poignant and laugh-out-loud funny. Beard's knowledge of Shakespeare shines in a play that evokes The Tempest in language and structure, but also stands on its own as a complete story.
The Rose is one of very few reconstructions of Shakespearean playhouses in the United States, and Pigeon Creek Shakespeare is the only outside group that performs in the space, which is primarily used as a teaching space for the middle school and high school campers who attend Blue Lake each summer. This one-day-only performance benefits Blue Lake Public Radio.
