Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Stages HAMLET at Elizabethan Playhouse Reconstruction Today

By: Aug. 29, 2015

The Grand Haven-based Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, Michigan's only year-round, touring Shakespeare Company, will bring another production to the Rose Playhouse, a recreation of an outdoor Elizabethan playhouse at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan, in the summer of 2015. The company will perform HAMLET today, August 29 at 2:00 p.m.

Pigeon Creek is an award-winning theatre company specializing in productions which use the performance conditions from Shakespeare's time period, such as audience interaction, live music and sound, and cross-gendered casting.

Ticket revenue from the Rose performances goes to benefit WBLV/WBLU, Blue Lake Public Radio. The Rose was built by Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in 2010, and is used primarily for the instruction of middle school and high school level campers throughout the summer. The theatre features architecture based on outdoor playhouses of Shakespeare's time period such as the Globe and the original Rose. These performances offer West Michigan audiences the very rare opportunity to see Shakespeare's plays performed in the theatre architecture from the Bard's own time period. Blue Lake's Rose is one of the only reconstructions of an Elizabethan playhouse in the country.

Tickets to these performances are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $15 for students and groundlings. Tickets are available from Blue Lake Public Radio at 231-894-5656 or 1-800-889-9258. For further information about the Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, visit www.pcshakespeare.com.
