During a scene of John Logan's Tony-winning "Red," soon to be presented at Performance Network Theatre, the artist Mark Rothko and his assistant reach a pivotal breakthrough when passionately arguing what the color red represents to them; lipstick, a heartbeat, the feeling of a sunrise. Inspired by this question -- what IS red? -- Performance Network Theatre has begun "Red All Over," a Community Art Project aimed at creating an artistic representation of Ann Arbor, using only the color red.

Beginning Thursday, April 12 and running through Wednesday, April 25, Ann Arbor residents will notice canvases scattered around town at popular hang-outs and businesses. Performance Network invites residents to add their own drawing to the canvases using the provided selection of supplies, including markers, pencils, and pastels. Previous experience in the visual arts is not required. Both master painters and in-the-margin doodlers are encouraged to participate.

The finished artworks will be displayed in the Performance Network lobby during the run of "Red."

Schedule of Canvas Locations:
Arbor Brewing Company: April 12 - 15
Aut Bar: April 12 - 14
Walgreen Drama Center: April 12 - 15
Michigan Theater: April 16 - 18
