GREEN DAY'S AMERICAN IDIOT to Close Flint Repertory Theatre 2025–26 Season
Director Kevin O'Callaghan leads the production at UM-Flint Theatre, with music direction by Leah Fox.
Flint Repertory Theatre will close its 2025–26 season with GREEN DAY'S AMERICAN IDIOT, running May 29 through June 14, 2026, at the University of Michigan-Flint Theatre.
Based on the Green Day album of the same name, the Tony Award-winning rock musical features music by Green Day, lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong, and a book by Armstrong and Michael Mayer.
The production is directed by Kevin O'Callaghan, with choreography by Cy Paolantonio and Megan Krause Meyer and music direction by Leah Fox.
AMERICAN IDIOT follows Johnny and his friends as they attempt to escape suburban life while confronting disillusionment, identity, and uncertainty. The score includes songs such as “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Holiday,” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”
In a statement, Flint Rep Producing Artistic Director Nicole Samsel said the musical remains timely more than two decades after the album’s release, citing its themes of identity, community, media, and political division.
The cast includes Austin McCoy, Dorian O'Dell, Bello Paolo Pizzimenti, Alec Diem, Faith Green, Tiyanna Gentry, Lee Martin, Travis Darghali, Chanelle Beach, Rebecca Dral, Cali Hill, Deagan Krohn, Vinny Supp, and Antonio Vettraino.
The creative team includes scenic designer Eli Sherlock, Costume Designer Celeste Jennings, lighting and media designer Chelsie McPhilimy, sound designer Taylor J. Williams, props designer Leslie Hull, and production stage manager Sarah Ackerman.

GREEN DAY'S AMERICAN IDIOT runs May 29–June 14, 2026, at the University of Michigan-Flint Theatre, located at 327 East Kearsley Street in Flint, Michigan.
Tickets begin at $36, including fees.
An ASL-interpreted performance will take place Sunday, June 7 at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 5 will feature a College Night event offering free admission and pizza for students with a valid college ID. Genesee County residents are eligible for a 30 percent ticket discount through the Genesee County Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage program.
