Van Wezel's I LOVE A PIANO Opens 11/30

By: Nov. 05, 2009

Irving Berlin's I Love a Piano, at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Monday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m., looks at America through the perceptive and hopeful eyes of one of America's greatest composers. Tickets are $40-$55 (a limited number of "Smart Seats" are available for $10).

Conceived by Ray Roderick and Michael Berkeley, the all singing, all dancing review weaves together vignettes of the great events of the American century from the World War I era through the Roaring '20s, to the Depression and World War II, and finally to the end of the 1950s. The production features over 60 songs, a cast of six and an eight-piece Dixieland Band.

The Los Angeles Times called I Love a Piano "as invigorating a song-catalog revue as any since Ain't Misbehavin." Backstage.com lauded the production for "parlaying the glorious Berlin canon into a tuneful and exhilarating show."

The show is sponsored by Wilde Lexus of Sarasota and Piano Distributors.

Irving Berlin's I Love a Piano is part of this season's Broadway Series at the Van Wezel, featuring beloved classics and exciting new productions never seen in Sarasota before. Upcoming shows include Avenue Q (Dec. 10, 11); Defending the Caveman (Jan. 15); The Wedding Singer (Jan. 24), Girls Night: The Musical (Feb. 1); Hairspray (Feb. 9), Mamma Mia (Feb. 23-28) 102 Years of Broadway (Apr. 7), Xanadu (Apr. 20, 21) and Cirque Le Masque (Mar. 14).
