The Maltz Jupiter Theatre To Present TINTYPES, Feb. 9-28
By: Mary Hanrahan
Tintypes, a patriotic musical revue, will be presented by the Maltz Jupiter Theatre from Feb. 9-28, 2010.
It was an era of swooning waltzes and precise marches. It was a time in which America first came to the world stage as a superpower. It also was the time in which the huddled masses who were yearning to breathe free came to America with dreams of starting a new life. And it is through the eyes of those immigrants that we see the America of a century ago in Tintypes.
The show, created by Mary Kyte with Mel Marvin and Gary Pearle, is a revue of 50 songs, ranging from the upbeat rhythms of George M. Cohan's Yankee Doodle Boy to the lilting waltzes of Victor Herbert. There also are such folk ballads as Wayfaring Stranger, as well as such spirituals as Sometimes, I Feel Like a Motherless Child. And who can forget the brassy fun of Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever?
