THE SOAP MYTH Starring Emmy Award-winning Legend Ed Asner Comes to The Arsht Center

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is proud to present a staged reading of THE SOAP MYTH, a drama by Jeff Cohen, in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Directed by Pam Berlin and playing for one night only on January 22 in the Center's John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall, THE SOAP MYTH dramatizes the powerful confrontation between survivor memory and historical memory and depicts the insidiousness of Holocaust denial. Seven-time Emmy Award winner Ed Asner (Pixar's UP, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Lou Grant) and three-time Emmy and Tony Award nominee Kate Burton (Scandal, Grey's Anatomy) will star in the play reading along with Ned Eisenberg and Blair Baker.

Tickets to THE SOAP MYTH are $25 & $30*. Tickets are available to Arsht Center Culturist members beginning December 4 and to the general public on December 8. All tickets may be purchased through the Adrienne Arsht Center Box Office by calling (305) 949-6722, or online at www.arshtcenter.org.

THE SOAP MYTH takes place more than a half century after the end of World War II when a young journalist sets out to write an article about a cantankerous Holocaust survivor and his crusade regarding the Nazi atrocity of soap. The play dramatically explores how a person survives and questions who has the right to write history - those who have lived it and remember, those who study and protect it, or those who would seek to distort and desecrate its very existence.

Ed Asner, who is beloved for the character of Lou Grant and the 2009 feature film UP, will perform the role of Holocaust survivor Milton Saltzman, and Kate Burton, adored for her performance A. Ellis Grey on the hit show "Grey's Anatomy," will perform the roles of Holocaust scholar Esther Feinman and Holocaust denier Brenda Goodsen.

THE SOAP MYTH was originally produced Off-Broadway at the Roundabout Theater in 2012 by the National Jewish Theater Foundation. A film of that production was broadcast nationally on PBS and is in the permanent collection of Britain's Digital Theatre.
