Rising Action Theatre Inc. Presents REEFER MADNESS: THE MUSICAL, 3/4-4/11

By: Nov. 29, 2009

'Reefer Madness', the hit madcap 30's musical based on the anti-marijuana propaganda movie of 1936, finds its way to the stage in a production directed by Kevin Coughlin at the Rising Action Theatre. The show runs from March 4 to April 11.

The year is 1936. As the play opens, The Lecturer, a severe authority figure, informs the audience of the new drug menace "Marihuana," which threatens the American way of life!  His warnings are reinforced by The Placard Girl who -- throughout the play -- holds up large signs that clearly state the moral of what we've just seen.  From his podium, The Lecturer warns us that action must be taken immediately, before the Good Ol' U.S.A. succumbs to the Demon Weed!!

'Reefer Madness' is the winner of 3 Best Musical Awards: The LA Ovation Award, BackStage West Garland Award, LA Drama Crtics Award for Best New Musical!

'Reefer Madness' is directed by Kevin Coughlin, with music and book by Dan Studney and lyrics and book by Kevin Murphy.

The show will run from March 4 to April 11, 2010. For tickets, please visit risingactiontheatre.tix.com or call 1 800 595-4849. Rising Action Theatre is located at 840 E. Oakland Park Blvd, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
