GableStage at the Biltmore, in association with Jay Harris, is proud to present the Southeastern Premiere of Fat Pig by Neil LaBute--opening on February 24th and running thru March 25th.

The play, which had its World Premiere at the Manhattan Class Company (MCC) Theatre in New York i n 2004, poses the question: How many insults can you hear before you have to stand up and defend the woman you love -- who is bright, funny, sexy -- and happens to be plus-sized? The author wrote the following in his introduction to the published version: " The story really deals with human weakness and the difficulty many people face when trying to stand up for, live up to, or come out for something they believe in. " The New York Times called Neil LaBute, "The most legitimately provocative and polarizing playwright at work today!" It also stated that Fat Pig is "the most emotionally engaging and unsettling of Mr. LaBute's plays!" The New York Post theatre critic wrote, "Beautifully written, hilarious, balances black humor and social commentary!"

Neil LaBute is a critically acclaimed playwright, filmmaker and fiction writer. His controversial works include the plays bash: latterday plays, The Distance from Here, The Mercy Seat and two plays that have already been produced at GableStage--This Is How It Goes and The Shape of Things. His films include: In the Company of Men, Your Friends and Neighbors, Nurse Betty and The Shape of Things. His latest play to open in New York, Wrecks, starring Ed Harris, opened to excellent reviews and an extended sold-out run at The Public Theatre in New York City in October 2006.

Fat Pig's cast includes four of South Florida's most accomplished talents: Jim Ballard, Brandon Morris (who appeared in the GableStage production last season of LaBute's This Is How It Goes), Margot Moreland (who played Mae West at GableStage in Dirty Blonde several seasons ago) and Aubrey Shavonn. Performance Schedule: Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 8pm and Sundays at 2 and 7pm. Individual tickets are $40 for Friday, Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm, and $35 on Thursday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm.
