Maltz Jupiter Theatre to Offer Staged Reading of WRONGFUL DEATH, 7/27

By:

Want to hear a new play in the works before it hits it big?

Then you won't want to miss the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's staged reading of Wrongful Death, a new dark comedy about power and money by South Florida playwright Christopher Demos-Brown. The play reading will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 27, on the Theatre's stage. The event is free and open to the public.

When a plane crashes shortly after takeoff - killing all aboard - struggling personal injury lawyer Laura Mendes scampers to sign up for the case of her life. Wrongful Death takes a wry, satirical look at the crude ways our legal system places value on human life.

Part of the South Florida Theatre League's Summer Theatre Fest Reading Series, the staged reading will be directed by Clive Cholerton and performed by a cast of accomplished actors, including Amy McKenna, Karen Stephens, Patti Gardner and Ryan Didato.

"The Maltz Jupiter Theatre welcomes the opportunity to showcase new work and support local artists, and taking part in the South Florida Theatre League's Summer Theatre Fest Reading Series is always a wonderful experience," said Andrew Kato, the Theatre's producing artistic director. "Christopher Demos-Brown is an accomplished South Florida playwright and we look forward to hosting a reading of his newest work for a second year in a row."

Demos-Brown's credits include the full-length plays Fear Up Harsh (which received a Steinberg Award Citation from The American Theatre Critics' Association last year), When the Sun Shone Brighter (Carbonell Award, Silver Palm Award, Steinberg Award Nomination, National New Play Network Smith Prize Finalist), Captiva (Silver Palm Award, Steinberg Award Nomination) and the short plays Mallory Square and So I Was Wondering... (Heideman Award Finalist). In addition to being a playwright, Demos-Brown is a lawyer and a cofounder of Zoetic Stage in Miami, where he lives with his wife, Stephanie, and his daughters Katherine and Jillian.

The event follows the success of another staged reading presented at the Theatre last June: Captiva, also written by Demos-Brown and presented through the Summer Theatre Fest Reading Series.

Seating is limited, so reservations are required; for more information, call the box office at (561) 575-2223.
