Maltz Jupiter Theatre Gives Back To The Local Community

By:

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre is continuing the success of its 2009/2010 season by opening its doors to other organizations so they can further their fund-raising missions and, along the way, introduce the theatre to new audiences.

"Out of season, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre has the opportunity to recognize the talents and needs of our community," said Andrew Kato, artistic director of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. "We are happy to be able to make the theatre available for three outstanding programs."
Making a difference is what the events at the theatre are all about.

The first performance is Shine the Light, a celebration of music and dance in memory of Makayla Joy Sitton, the young girl whose life was cut short last Thanksgiving.

The show, scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, will be a joyful afternoon of classics, hymns and inspirational music, along with breath-taking ballet. The show, to be produced and presented by the Jupiter Academy of Music, with the participation of Florida Classical Ballet Theatre and the Young Singers of the Palm Beaches, will help make a difference in the lives of other children who share Makayla's love for the arts by raising money for scholarships at Jupiter Academy of Music. Don't miss art displayed by Lighthouse Center for the Arts in the lobby. Tickets are $15-$50.

After that is Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, a production directed by Wade Jennings, a Dreyfoos School of the Arts student who is producing and directing the show. The production, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, is a partnership with the Maltz Jupiter Theatre to create a permanent Youth Director's Chair, in which young directors from Palm Beach County will get to choose a play, justify their approach, pitch their ideas, then direct a production at a professional theatre to get their "start." This will be Jennings' Eagle Scout Service Project. The theatre plans to continue this program as part of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's Youth Director's Chair project with the money raised from this event. Tickets are $15 adults, $8 students.
Tickets to Shine the Light and The Importance of Being Earnest may be purchased by calling (561) 575-2223 or (800) 466-1666 or by logging on to www.jupitertheatre.org.
Last in the series of shows is Mary Poppins, which will be presented by the Atlantic Dance Theater in association with Atlantic Arts Academy. The Atlantic Dance Theater is a pre-professional dance company made up of upper-level dancers from Atlantic Arts Academy in Jupiter. Performances will be 7 p.m. Saturday, May 15, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 16. Tickets are $20-$25, and can be purchased by calling the Atlantic Dance Theater box office at (561) 575-4942 or by logging on to www.TheAtlanticTheater.com. This is not a Maltz Jupiter Theatre production.

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre is an award-winning professional not-for-profit regional theatre dedicated to the performing arts whose mission is to entertain, educate and inspire our community. The Theatre is a member of the prestigious League of Resident Theatres and is located east of U.S. Highway 1 at 1001 East Indiantown Road and State Road A1A in Jupiter.
