Maltz Jupiter Theatre Company Announces MacArthur Fund Grant
By: Faetra Petillo
The Maltz Jupiter Theatre announces it has received the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fund granted by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. This prestigious grant was awarded to the Theatre for the development of four new musicals as part of the new Emerging Artist Series in Musical Theater Playwriting.
Four new unpublished works, selected from a nationwide submission request, will receive a staged reading during the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's 2008/2009 season. Additionally, the Theatre will also host a one week writer's workshop for one creative team chosen from among the year's readings. We are truly honored to have received the financial support from the Community Foundation to contribute to the creation of new work in Palm Beach County, said Tricia Trimble, Managing Director, who proposed the grant last year. I wanted to find funding for a new project that our Artistic Director was passionate about. The timing on this grant could not be more perfect, said Andrew Kato, Artistic Director of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. This year will celebrate the complex process of putting a production together through our 'We Create Art' campaign. The Emerging Artist Series in Musical Theater Playwriting will allow our audiences to witness several musicals as they go through their development stages.
