CROSSING DELANCEY Begins Rehearsal At Stage Door

By: Jun. 30, 2011

"CROSSING DELANCEY" BEGINS REHEARSAL AT STAGE DOOR

Stage Door Theatre has begun rehearsals for "Crossing Delancey", the romantic comedy by Susan Sandler that begins performances on July 8 at their Coral Springs location in Theatre 1. Director Dan Kelley and Producer Derelle Bunn were in New York last month searching for the actors that embody the characters, and then trying to entice them to spend a summer in Florida.

"Crossing Delancey" is best remembered by audiences for the movie version in the 1980's that made Amy Irving a star as the character of Isabelle. In the Stage Door version, Isabelle is being played by New York actress Laura Kaldis. The play is a heart warming comedy about modern times clashing with old world traditions.

Playing Isabelle's Bubbie is Phyllis Spear, a long-time veteran of Stage Door. Other actors in the show are Michael Alan Read (most recently seen as Marcellus in "The Music Man"), and South Florida favorite Sally Bondi as the Matchmaker. The cast is rounded out by New York actor Toby Miller as Isabelle's love interest, Tyler.

Meanwhile, the Stage Door will be showing "Song Man, Dance Man" in Theatre 2, starring Broadway veteran Jon Peterson from June 1 to August 07. And at their new location in Miami Beach, "Suds, the 1960's Rockin Musical" will also be playing this summer from July 29 to September 04.
