ACT Presents Original Play Reading
A Classic Theatre will present a reading of an original play by St. Augustine resident, Lance Carden, "Democracy & its Demise" for only one performance on September 28, at 7:30pm at the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center, 102 ML King Ave. FREE ADMISSION.
The reading of this play will be of special interest to all political junkies. Ripped from today's headlines...but set in the 1870s, an idealistic heiress tries to help a leading Senator and contender for the White House deal with an incompetent and inane President.
More than a century ago, Henry Adams' popular novel, Democracy, warned of flaws in our system of government and created a great stir in the U.S. and abroad. Now, in a similar moment of political crisis, this acclaimed and riveting novel written 150 years ago is brought to the stage. Ambition...politics...romance... and disillusionment make this story eerily reminiscent of today's current events and the importance of maintaining the bedrock of democracy! Director and ACT founder Jean Rahner has assembled a large cast to bring the historical characters to life.
The cast includes Liz Myers, Evelyn Lyman, Margaret Kaler, Tom Rahner, Larry Hession, Lou Agresta, Kelly McTaggart, Guy Tillis, Harold George, Rich Nowell and Melinda Morais. There will be a Q&A after the reading and audience members are invited to question the playwright and comment on their reactions to the work. A Classic Theatre is a non-profit 501(c)(3) theater company established to bring classic, historic and original theatrical works to the cultural landscape of St. Augustine.
